IV therapy
Brain Storm with vitamin C
Brain Storm is a compounded intravenous blend given together with vitamin C, formulated around the nutrients the nervous system uses with the intent of improving focus, memory, concentration, and brain function.
What is in it
The exact formulation is stated before the infusion is connected, and is worth asking for and writing down.
-
Built around nutrients, not drugs
Preparations of this kind are assembled from vitamins, minerals and amino acids the nervous system uses in normal function.
-
Given with vitamin C
Ascorbic acid — a water-soluble antioxidant, and the component that carries most of the specific precautions for this infusion.
Risks and who should avoid it
-
The route
Bruising, leakage into surrounding tissue, vein inflammation and — rarely — infection, as with any infusion.
-
From high-dose B6
Pyridoxine taken at high doses over long periods can cause a sensory neuropathy — numbness and unsteadiness — which is slow to reverse. It is a reason to know the dose and not to repeat infusions indefinitely.
-
From the vitamin C
Red cell breakdown in G6PD deficiency, and oxalate load in kidney stone disease or impaired kidney function.
-
When it is not given
Pregnancy and breastfeeding, significant kidney disease, and any previous reaction to a component. New or worsening cognitive symptoms should be assessed medically before anything elective is arranged.
Common questions
Is it a nootropic or a medication?
